Police have arrested a local man following a robbery that happened on Tuesday near downtown Shreveport.
At around 8:20 p.m. yesterday evening, Shreveport officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Texas Street relative to an assault and battery.
It was learned on scene that the assault also involved a robbery of the victim. The victim, identified as Joseph Savice, was sitting inside his van, which is used in part as a residence, when an unknown male entered the van and began beating him.
Savice received several broken bones as a result of the assault. Savice was also robbed of a television that was inside his van at the time. The suspect in the incident was described as a black male, approximately six feet tall, with a medium build. A male subject of similar description was seen in the immediate area attempting to sell a television for narcotics later that same evening.
Yesterday, patrol officers received a call from a concerned citizen in reference to seeing the suspect from the robbery walking down Youree Drive. Area patrol officers were able to locate and apprehend the suspect at which time he was transported to the Detectives’ office for questioning.
The suspect was identified as 29 year old Tamus Hunter of the 600 block of W. 72nd Street in Shreveport. Hunter later advised detectives that he committed the robbery as a result of being high on illegal narcotics. Hunter was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of armed robbery.
