A Shreveport  man was killed in a rush hour 3-vehicle crash yesterday.

It happened in southeast Shreveport at around 5:25 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Line Avenue..

Police tell KMSS an earlier crash may have played a part in the accident. They say eastbound traffic was moving slowly on the passway near the East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop exit, when a truck driven by 31-year old Alton Willis, of Richmond, Tx, slammed into the back of an SUV driven by 55-year old Nathan Smith. Also inside the SUV was a 7-year old girl and 4-year old boy.

The impact of the collision forced the SUV into an 18-wheeler driven by 52-year old Nathan Smith of San Antonio, Tx.

All three SUV passengers were taken to a local hospital. Smith was later pronounced dead. The children suffered moderate injuries. There current condition is unknown.

Willis voluntarily accompanied officers to the Shreveport Police Complex where he underwent mandatory chemical testing and authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor in this crash.

At this time, no citations have been issued and the investigation is ongoing.
