SHREVEPORT, La. (KMSS) — Barksdale Air Force Base, which is named in honor of Lieutenant Eugene Hoy Barksdale celebrated its eightieth anniversary today.
Emerging from the cotton fields of northwest Louisiana in the early nineteen-thirties, Barksdale Air Force Base has grown into a major source of revenue and employment for the Ark-La-Tex.
"Eighty years later, Barksdale remains a vital part of our national defense," said Col. Andrew Gebara, 2nd Bomb Wing and Barksdale Installation
The base is also home to the air force's newest command, the air force global strike command.
